The University of Tokyo — Part-time Lecturer

A part-time lecturer at the University of Tokyo since 2015, connecting engineering education with design practice.

Sakamaki brings experience in electronic-instrument planning, product design and business and service development to teaching. His practice connects ideas with tangible prototypes, evaluation and refinement.

In the Faculty of Engineering’s 2021 Motivation Project, he taught the industrial-design assignment in the PSI course alongside Kazuhiro Aoyama and Shiro Aoki. The published programme combined design thinking, CAD, prototyping, reviews and a final presentation.

The assignment focused on developing the skills to realise something students wanted to make, then evaluating and improving their ideas. It brought questions of user experience together with the practical work of giving an idea form.
