Chiba University — Part-time Lecturer

A part-time lecturer at his alma mater, Chiba University, since 2013, bringing professional design and product-planning experience into education.

Sakamaki completed graduate studies at Chiba University in 2004. He has continued teaching alongside professional roles at KORG, Dentsu and Accenture / Fjord.

In his Dentsu-ho article, he describes a class in which students made prototypes before settling on a concept and shared their discoveries each week. Making and testing became ways to gain experience and develop ideas grounded in personal discoveries.

In an interview for the university’s design graduate exhibition, a former student discussed his career in product planning and business development. Sakamaki described design as one of several approaches, to be combined with other perspectives according to the task.

Since 2023, he has also taught the graduate Service Design and Service Design Studio Work courses, reaching his fourth year in 2026. The paired courses connect theory with practical assignments, presentations and discussion.
