ZERO8
An eight-channel live control console integrating a mixer, FireWire audio interface and MIDI controller. Sakamaki handled product planning and product design for ZERO8.
Each channel can operate in audio, MIDI or hybrid mode. FireWire carries audio to and from a computer, while knobs and faders can control software parameters.
The touch display serves both as an effects performance surface and a settings interface. Two-colour illumination distinguishes audio and MIDI control roles, supporting a workflow that combines mixing and software control on one console.
In his 2007 development interview, Sakamaki describes starting with the idea of a hardware centre for computer-based performance. The concept evolved into a live mixer that could accept guitars, turntables and other sources. Input-dependent gain ranges were also designed to make those different signal levels easier to handle during performance.
