A compact rhythm machine combining analogue percussion with PCM sounds. Sakamaki handled product planning for volca beats.

Six analogue parts cover kick, snare, toms and hi-hats, while four PCM parts supply sounds such as clap. The hybrid engine uses different methods for different percussion timbres.

A 16-step sequencer supports step entry and real-time recording. Stutter creates repeated hits, and Active Step changes the pattern by skipping selected steps, allowing the rhythm to be reshaped during performance.
