The original volca sample is a sample sequencer that turns recorded sounds into phrases and lets performers reshape them while they play. Sakamaki handled product planning.

It holds up to 100 samples and combines motion recording with active steps, swing and reverse playback. An analogue isolator and reverb provide further sound shaping.

Samples can be transferred through a dedicated iOS app, and a published SDK supports third-party transfer tools. Battery operation and an internal speaker place these functions in a compact, self-contained instrument.
