A compact synthesizer combining KORG’s MMT engine, a vocoder and a mini keyboard. Sakamaki handled product planning for the original microKORG XL.

Two oscillators, filters and virtual-patch routing support sound design across modelled synthesis and PCM-based keyboard timbres, including electric piano and clavinet. Two large selectors organise presets by musical genre and instrument category.

A 16-band vocoder applies vocal characteristics to the sound. The supplied microphone and battery operation extend the instrument’s use beyond a fixed studio setup.
